The German EnMAP (Environmental Mapping and Analysis Program) Earth observation satellite mission will provide high quality hyperspectral image data on a timely and frequent basis to the global user community. The main objective of the mission is to retrieve accurate, quantitative diagnostic of bio-geochemical and geophysical parameters thus allowing the observation of a wide range of ecosystem properties. The data provided will enable research in various application fields such as natural and anthropogenic land cover, soils and mineralogy, inland waters and coastal zones and will prepare operational information services in these applications.

After successful completion of the CDR in 2012, the details of the mission are laid out. This presentation provides an overview of the current status of the EnMAP mission. A special emphasis is placed on the technical concept of the satellite and payload. Based on successfully accomplished tests with engineering and development models the overall instrument performance of the Hyperspectral Imager (HSI) will be presented.
